Le Manoir de Rustin La Villa Grégoire sleeps 8 sleeps 4/5
The Domaine de Rustin lies in tranquil countryside halfway between Pont Aven and Nevez. Just 4km from sandy beaches and within easy reach of the N165 expressway, the attractive stone buildings of this rural hamlet offer a peaceful base from which to explore the region. Pont Aven, famously enjoyed by Paul Gauguin, Emile Bernard and many others in the late 1800's, has retained its artistic charm, with many art galleries, artists' studios and craft shops. The area around Nevez has a large number of traditional hamlets, many with beautifully restored thatched cottages. The coastline here is particularly rugged with many sandy little creeks and the Aven and Belon estuaries shelter several picturesque ports. A 15-minute drive will take you to Concarneau, which boasts a magnificent fortified town jutting out into the estuary. The fishing port (France's third biggest) and fish auction are open to the public at certain times. Further afield, Quimper - the ancient capital of Cornouailles - awaits you, with its charming cobbled streets and Gothic cathedral. The annual Festival Interceltique takes place just 30 minutes away in Lorient, during the first fortnight in August and attracts a huge number of visitors from around the world. The area is renowned for its vast range of fish and seafood (including the Belon oyster with its distinctive shape) and also produces many other gourmet delights: pancakes, cider and local specialities such as "kouing amann" being but a few. A real foodie heaven!
